Customs sea container search facility moves
by Press Release on 2010-09-06 05:04:06From 30 September, the New Zealand Customs Service Sea Container Search Facility is moving from its current location at The Strand, Parnell, to a facility within the Ports of Auckland.
Ports of Auckland and Customs are investing in the construction of a new facility to be located adjacent to the Tinley Street entrance to the Port.
Work on the new facility will start soon. In the interim, the Ports of Auckland have made available within the port precinct a suitable warehouse to avoid any disruption to Customs’ activity.
Accordingly, no disruption to the supply chain is anticipated and there will be no increase of costs for container moves within the port. There will also be no demurrage costs incurred while the container is at the Customs examination site.
The new facility will ultimately enable up to four containers at a time to be searched. Supply chain efficiency will be enhanced by streamlined container moves and reduced examination times for those containers identified requiring Customs’ scrutiny.
The progress on the new facility will be reported as the project evolves.
