Some Exhibitors need a kick in the pants

Video Image It was great to launch the Global Logistics Media Video on Demand initiative by interviewing some of the exhibitors at the SMART Expo in Sydney. It was also great to meet Rob O'Byrne from the Logistics Bureau and Gemma Maughan from Lewis PR who I have conversed with on a number of occasions but never met.

The majority of the exhibitors were great to talk to, they were passionate about their business and loved the industry, and they were also keen to take advantage of us being there by doing a video interview and promoting their business to the Global Logistics Media Online Community. (By the way it was free)

On the other hand, some of the exhibitors needed a kick in the pants. Although Expos are great to meet potential clients, promote products and services and generally mix and mingle, others take the opportunity to use the Expo to take time out. These guys are usually sales reps, business development managers and those that don’t really give a stuff about generating business.

Example. As I finished an interview I caught the eye of this particular exhibitor who was wondering what was going on. As I approached him, I said "Hi, im Nigel from Global Logistics Media", he replied "What do you want".

I guess I could have said, "nothing from you mate", but I resisted and began to tell him about Global Logistics Media and our Video on Demand initiative. I maybe wrong, but I would have thought doing a 3 minute piece to cam where you get to tell a large online audience about your product or service would be appealing, but this particular exhibitor said "aaahhh, sorry but video is not my thing".

Maybe video wasn’t his thing, but I bet it was his manager’s thing. I understand doing a video is not everyone’s cup of tea, but get over yourself, it’s not about you, it’s about taking opportunities that will benefit your company that pays your salary.

Anyway, apart from 3-4 exhibitors who thought video wasn’t their thing, the SMART Expo was a success so thanks to the organizers of the Expo that let us attend, we will certainly be back next year.

LOL. Great post Nigel. Some people just don't and never will 'get it'.

    Hi Nigel,
You absolutley right video is not everyones thing. But in this day and age you have to try and sell yourself every minute of every day, to everyone you can. And acting like a goose is not selling yourself or your company.

For the record I did a video interview and it may not be 100% at least I gave it ago.

PS. Keep up the good work Nigel.
