Weiss-Röhlig

China, June 2012 - Weiss-Röhlig is now offering a direct sea connection from Shanghai to Santos in Brazil. This product is also an ideal solution for LCL consignments from Ningbo, as they can be transported daily from Ningbo to Shanghai and then loaded directly into the consolidated containers. The strategic alliance between Gebrüder Weiss and Röhlig Logistics is thus providing a link between one of the fastest growing economic areas in Asia and the most important sea port in Latin America.

The weekly Hapag Lloyd departures ensure fast, efficient and smooth handling of LCL general cargo in consolidated containers.

The connection offers many advantages for industry, as it links two of the most important industrial cities in the world in a way which enables effective planning.

Vojislav Jevtic, Global Product Manager for Seafreight at Gebrüder Weiss Air & Sea, has the following to say about the new product: “The weekly consolidated container services between China and Brazil have expanded our product portfolio enormously. The consolidated containers are packed by us in Shanghai and transported to Santos without any need for transhipment. We are responsible for all loading checks, as well as for the loading and unloading, which means the risk of damage is reduced. Due to the market development in both countries, we see great potential for increasing the capacities of this connection in the near future and offering similar products throughout the rest of Asia.”

Over 20 years of success in Asia
The first Gebrüder Weiss Chinese office was officially opened in Shanghai back in 1992. This was soon followed by a second in Qingdao. The company’s growing presence in the Asian market was strengthened in 2000 through the establishment of an international strategic alliance with Röhlig Logistics and also the addition of locations in Singapore and Hong Kong. In the following years, the network in Asia has been continually expanded. The most recent expansions have included the takeover of the Japanese logistics company JHB Express as well as the joint venture between Gebrüder Weiss and Tegeta Motors Ltd. in Georgia at the start of 2012.
