Winners announced for 2010 Queensland T&L Awards

The winners were announced the 2010 Queensland T&L Industry Development Awards, which have been developed by the Supply Chain and Logistics Association of Australia, Queensland Division, in conjunction with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Strategix Training Group, the Transport and Logistics Workforce Advisory Group and apics. Over 400 people were in attendance at the Queensland Supply Chain and Logistics Conference dinner where the T&L Award winners are announced each year.
 
Queensland T&L Industry Futures Award
Sponsored by Strategix Training Group, the Queensland T&L Industry Futures Award, is awarded to the company, institution or organisation with the best proven record in providing people with an entry to, and pathway in, the Transport, Supply Chain & Logistics industries.

Finalists are: J.J. Richards and Sons, Tarong Energy and Polar Fresh Cold Chain Services. A High Commendation was awarded to Tarong Energy.

Wayne Striplin, National Operations Manager, Strategix Training Group presented the 2010 T&L Industry Futures Award to J.J. Richards and Sons.

J.J. Richards and Sons are spearheading industry’s efforts in Queensland to attract high school leavers into the Transport and Logistics industry.  The ‘School-to-Work’ program has received praise and expressions of interest from all parts of industry and has blazed a trail for T&L in QLD to better engage young people early in the career decision cycle.  

J.J. Richards and Sons have demonstrated strong leadership in workforce development and a willingness to share their work for the benefit of the wider T&L community. The success of their program allows them to sustainably promote Transport & Logistics as a competitive career pathway within their own local community and, through their efforts, other businesses and communities within Queensland hope to reap the benefits for their workforces in the years ahead.

Queensland T&L Experience Pays Award
Sponsored by the Transport and Logistics Workforce Advisory Group (TLWAG), the Queensland T&L Experience Pays Award, is presented to provide incentive and recognition for mature-age individuals working in the Transport, Supply Chain and Logistics industries

Finalists are:

  • Chris Mangan, Chairman – Project Steering Committee, Transport & Logistics - Skills Formation Strategy
  • Frank Munnich, Logistics Supervisor, Rockhampton Regional Council
  • Cris Roy, Warehouse Manager, BCR Australia
  • Lindsay Sinclair, Branch Manager Bundaberg, NQX Freight System
  • Steve Wyborn, General Manager, Sarina Russo


A High Commendation was awarded to Frank Munnich, Logistics Supervisor, Rockhampton Regional Council.

Peter Garske, Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Trucking Association presented the 2010 T&L Experience Pays Award to John Edwards. John Edwards is the Managing Consultant for ProcureNet Queensland (a specialist recruitment agency for contract and permanent Supply staff). John has been passionately involved in the Skills Formation Strategy project. He has been consistent, visionary and courageous with his approach and contribution to the development of strategies to better unite and define the industry. John has continually shown industry leadership and courage in promoting discussion and solutions to the very complex issues that our industry currently faces. He has consistently shown passion for ‘what’s good for industry’ and energised and organised his industry reference group to be focussed on the issues we need to start addressing as an industry. John has always been willing - behind the scenes and without want of recognition- to fund, drive and lead activities and discussions for industry’s betterment in his own time. This industry desperately needs more people like John Edwards.

Queensland T&L Future Leaders Award
Sponsored by Department of Transport and Main Roads, the Queensland T&L Future Leaders award provides incentive and recognition for individuals working in Transport, Supply Chain & Logistics industries that are planning a career path within the Industry.

2010 Finalists are:

A High Commendation was awarded to Daniel Clarke, Pick Up and Delivery Supervisor, NQX Freight System.

Dave Stewart, Director General, Department of Transport and Main Roads, presented the 2010 Queensland T&L Future Leaders award to Bree Pitcher. Bree Pitcher is a Procurement Officer for Tarong Energy in their Business & Financial Services section. Bree, by the admission of her peers, is considered, highly intelligent, focussed and fantastic to work with. By the admission of her management staff, has a great attitude to work, attacks tasks given to her with enthusiasm and confidence, and has all the strong characteristics of leadership for her many years ahead in T&L. Not only does she consistently take on procurement activities of higher complexity and risk profile, Bree has been instrumental in the implementation of sustainable procurement within Tarong Energy. She continually and successfully negotiates and awards important contracts for Tarong and is an active contributor to industry outside her workplace in such initiatives like the development of the SCLAA Young Professionals Group and Leadership Mentoring Program. Bree is a Future Leader in every sense.  

The T&L Awards is the Queensland feeder program for the Australian Supply Chain and Logistics Awards which will be held on the 28th of October at Crystal Palace, Luna Park, Sydney.
